Any elected member may be made Chief Minister. It does not matter if the elected member is a senator, connectable, or deputy. Before the first meeting, after an electoral result, elected members nominate their choice for Chief Minister. Nominations must be signed by at most 6 members.
The Chief Minister-designate nominates the elected members they would like to become Ministers at the second meeting after an electoral result. Other members are allowed to nominate ministerial positions. Each candidate is allowed to make a 10-minute statement and answer questions for up to 20 minutes.
How is the Chief Minister Elected?
A Minister is elected if only one candidate is present. If more than one candidate is present, the assembly holds a vote. The elected members then choose their Ministers.
Power and Authority of Chief Minister

Salary of Chief Minister
The Chief Minister of the state is the leader in MLAs at the State Assembly, while the Prime Minister is the leader in MPs at the Lok Sabha. Indian officers are paid a salary for their services. Indian President earns Rs. 5 lac per calendar month, plus allowances.
Facilities availed by the Chief Minister
In matters of determining internal policies for the state, the Chief Minister’s decision is final. The State Council of Ministers Act remains under his control. He is there to help a minister in any difficulties during the Assembly debates. He must take responsibility for getting important bills passed. He has to maintain good relations with the citizens and ensure efforts to improve the state’s condition.
Roles & Responsibilities of Chief Minister
The Chief Advisor to the Governor: This is the person who advises the governor to perform his duties. The governor, on the advice of the Chief Minister, performs his duties in matters like summoning and dissolving the Legislative Assembly. The constitution confers supremacy on the Chief Minister, making him the leader of ministers. Therefore, it is his responsibility to maintain unity among ministers.
